GEO

Generative Engine Optimization

People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude what app to use. GEO is how you make sure the answer is yours.

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of getting your brand cited, recommended and accurately described by AI assistants. Classic SEO and ASO optimize for a ranked list of links or apps. GEO optimizes for a single synthesized answer, where there is no page two and often only one recommendation. The engine reads the web, decides which sources it trusts, and speaks on your behalf. GEO is the work of shaping what it says.

Why it matters

Recommendation is the new ranking

The funnel starts in a chat

A growing share of app discovery begins with a conversation, not a store search. By the time someone reaches your listing, an AI may have already shortlisted you or left you out entirely.

Winner takes most

A generative answer names two or three options. Being the fourth-best match is the same as being invisible, so the gap between cited and uncited is far harsher than a ranking drop.

You cannot buy the slot

There is no bid for a citation. Engines cite sources they consider trustworthy, current and clearly written, which makes GEO earned rather than paid.

Wrong answers stick

If an engine describes a feature you removed or a price you no longer charge, it repeats that to every future user. Monitoring is as valuable as promotion.

ASO vs GEO

Same goal, different machine

You need both. They reward different work.

Our approach

Four pillars of a GEO program

1

Measure your baseline

We track the prompts your buyers actually type across every major engine, then record how often you appear, how you are described, and who gets named instead. Without a baseline, GEO is superstition.

2

Fix the sources

Models cite what they trust: your own docs and site, review roundups, comparison articles, community threads. We map the sources feeding your category and show you which ones are worth earning or correcting.

3

Sharpen the entity

Engines need to know what you are, who you serve and what makes you different, stated consistently everywhere. We tighten structured data, product copy and public positioning so the model has one clear story to repeat.

4

Watch and react

Answers drift as models update. We archive every response mentioning your brand and flag shifts in accuracy, tone and competitive framing so you can respond in days rather than quarters.

How we work

From invisible to cited

  1. Step 1

    Audit

We benchmark your current AI visibility across engines, prompts and competitors, and hand you the numbers behind it.

  2. Step 2

    Prioritize

We rank the gaps by how much visibility each one is costing you, so the cheapest wins go first.

  3. Step 3

    Execute

Metadata, structured data, source outreach and content, run by your team with our recommendations or run with you.

  4. Step 4

    Monitor

Continuous tracking in the platform, with alerts when your position in an answer changes.

GEO FAQ

Questions we get about GEO

Is GEO just SEO with a new name?

They overlap, because most engines read the same web SEO built. The difference is the target. SEO earns a click on a ranked link. GEO earns a mention inside an answer the user never clicks away from, which rewards clarity, consistency and third-party corroboration more than raw keyword coverage.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?

No, and anyone who guarantees it is selling something. Engines are probabilistic and change without notice. What we can do is measure where you stand, improve the inputs that demonstrably drive citations, and show you the movement over time.

How long does it take to see movement?

Fixing an inaccurate description can land within weeks, since engines with live retrieval pick up corrected sources quickly. Building genuine authority in a competitive category is a quarters-long effort. We set the expectation per prompt cluster in the audit.

Do we need GEO if our ASO is already strong?

Strong ASO helps, because the signals that make you credible in a store often make you credible to a model. It is not sufficient. Engines rarely read store listings directly, so an app that dominates store search can still be absent from every AI answer in its category.

Which engines do you cover?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude today, plus Google AI Overviews. We add engines as they reach meaningful share in our customers' markets.
