App metadata is the text of your store listing, the part of app store optimization you write yourself, and each store has its own fields and limits.
On the App Store: the app name (up to 30 characters), the subtitle (up to 30), a keyword field that users never see (up to 100 characters, words separated by commas), the promotional text (up to 170) and the description (up to 4,000). Apple’s search reads mainly the name, the subtitle and the keyword field, so every character there counts.
On Google Play: the title (up to 30 characters), the short description (up to 80) and the full description (up to 4,000). There is no keyword field: Google Play reads your descriptions, so the words you use there, and how naturally you use them, matter more.
Each language can have its own app metadata, which is where localization pays off: a listing written for each market, not just translated.
